Community Event Honoring Cadence Eileen Will Focus on Awareness, Prevention, and Support
[MURRIETA, Calif., June 2026] — SAFE Family Justice Centers (SAFE FJC) will host Love Shouldn’t Hurt: Remembering Cadence Eileen on Monday, June 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Monteleone Meadows in Murrieta. The event will bring together youth, families, educators, mentors, and community members to raise awareness about teen dating violence and encourage more open conversations about healthy relationships and early warning signs.
Cadence Eileen grew up in the Murrieta community and participated in Riverside County PAL programming during her younger years. In May 2025, just weeks after prom, Cadence lost her life to teen dating violence, leaving family, friends, and the broader community heartbroken. SAFE FJC hopes the event will honor her memory while encouraging conversations about healthy relationships, early warning signs, and the importance of support and intervention before violence escalates.
In collaboration with Cadence’s family, the evening will include community education, supportive resources, opportunities for reflection, and activities honoring Cadence’s memory while raising awareness about teen dating violence. Community members who knew Cadence are invited to bring printed photographs to contribute to a memory book for her family. Attendees are also encouraged to bring a dessert to share as part of the community gathering.
“The reality is that many teens are in relationships, and as adults, we cannot afford to avoid the hard conversations,” said Marshall Hamilton, Executive Director of SAFE Family Justice Centers. “We need to talk more openly about healthy relationships, warning signs, control, and safety before situations become dangerous. We hope this event honors Cadence’s memory while helping young people and families become more aware of the support and resources available in our community.”
Teen dating violence affects young people in communities everywhere, including here in Riverside County. National data shows that approximately 1 in 12 high school students experience physical dating violence, while many more experience emotional abuse, coercion, isolation, or controlling behaviors within relationships. Through education, community conversation, and remembrance, SAFE FJC hopes this event will help youth and families recognize warning signs earlier, better understand healthy relationships, and know support is available.
The event is open to the public. Teens, families, and community members are encouraged to attend, learn more about healthy relationships, and connect with local support resources.
